Yorkshire
Founded over forty years ago, the Yorkshire Region of the Variety Club Children's Charity is now one of the most successful region's outside London raising hundreds of thousands of pounds every year to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged and disabled children.
The Yorkshire committee is made up of an enthusiastic and dedicated group of people from diverse backgrounds drawn together by a common cause to help youngsters lead more fulfilled and enriched lives.
Several of the committee have been serving members for many years and their wisdom and experience is complemented by the enthusiasm and zeal of younger members. Together, they really do make things happen. For example, in 2008, as part of its Variety at Work activity, Christmas parties were organised for over 1000 children.
The committee enjoys excellent links with the local business community which, over the years, has greatly supported the Variety Club and always goes that extra mile to donate money. The funds raised are used to provide items as diverse as specialist computers, manual and powered wheelchairs, walking frames and more than 100 Sunshine coaches, which are a welcome site on the region's roads.
